NineMind Bodywork is a hands-on practice that works at the intersection of the nervous system, physical tension, posture, and behavior patterns. It combines precise hands-on contact, guided embodied awareness, movement observation, and verbal coaching. The goal isn't to force your body to change, it's to help your nervous system understand that it can.
Several ways. First, you're actively participating, your attention, breath, and feedback are part of the process, not incidental to it. Second, the intent is different: instead of manually loosening muscles, we're working with the nervous system to shift the patterns that are creating the tension in the first place. Third, sessions include movement observation and verbal coaching, not just table work. And fourth, we're building a map of your specific patterns over time, not delivering a standard routine.
Related, but different. Somatic Experiencing is a specific trauma-processing modality developed by Peter Levine, practiced by licensed therapists. NineMind Bodywork is informed by somatic principles, the understanding that the body holds and expresses patterns, but it is not psychotherapy, trauma therapy, or mental health treatment. If you're working through significant trauma, please work with a licensed somatic therapist. This work can complement that, but it doesn't replace it.
It means the work is aimed at the system that's actually running the show. Muscles don't tighten on their own, they tighten because the nervous system tells them to. Chronic tension patterns are the nervous system's best current solution to a problem it perceives. Working nervous-system–focused means understanding what that problem is, creating enough safety that the solution isn't needed anymore, and helping the system find a new organization. It's less about the tissue and more about the signal driving it.
Clients keep their bottoms and undergarments on throughout the session. For everything else, fitted athletic wear is ideal, loose or bulky clothing makes movement observation harder and limits contact work. Some modalities, like cupping or instrument-assisted work (scraping), require direct skin contact on the legs or back. If we'll be using those tools, those areas need to be accessible. When in doubt, bring a change of clothes or ask ahead of time, I can work around most things and will always tell you what's needed before we start.
The work is slow and deliberate, not aggressive. Some moments may feel uncomfortable, working with what the body has been holding, both physically and mentally, can be genuinely difficult. That's part of the process. But I'm never asking you to white-knuckle through something you can't handle. I'm paying close attention throughout, to what you say and what your body is telling me, and I adjust accordingly. Your feedback is always welcome and always acted on. The most effective work happens just at the edge of what's interesting, not at the edge of what's tolerable.
It varies. Some people feel immediately lighter, less held, more spacious. Some feel a wave of fatigue, like the system finally got permission to rest. Some notice subtle shifts over the following 24–48 hours as the nervous system continues integrating. Occasionally people feel emotionally tender after deeper work. All of these are normal. Drink water, move gently, and pay attention to what you notice, that noticing is part of the process.
Participation means staying present and communicating. During hands-on work, I'll ask you to notice things, the quality of tension in an area, whether something shifts with breath, how a sensation changes or moves. Your honest feedback guides the work. It also means not checking out or going passive on the table, the nervous system changes faster when your attention is engaged. You don't need any special skills; curiosity is enough.
Some people experience meaningful relief after just one session. For lasting change in deeply ingrained patterns, multiple sessions tend to build more durable results. Honestly, it depends on how long the pattern has been there, how it expresses, and how your system responds. I won't sell you on a program upfront, after the first session I'll give you my honest read on what makes sense, and we'll adjust based on how the work progresses. The goal is always your independence, not your dependency on sessions.
I'm careful about making claims for specific conditions, because this isn't medical treatment and I don't diagnose. What I can say is that the work tends to be most useful when chronic tension, postural holding, or nervous system dysregulation is part of the picture, regardless of what label that's been given. If you have a specific situation, reach out and describe it. I'll give you an honest answer about whether this is likely to be useful.
Yes, and it often works well in combination. If you're seeing a physical therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, or talk therapist, let me know. The work tends to complement rather than conflict with other approaches. The one note: if you're in active medical treatment for something, make sure your provider is aware you're also doing bodywork. Communication between providers is always better than silence.
A few situations where I'd want to have a real conversation first: active injury or acute pain that needs medical evaluation, severe or acute mental health conditions, recent surgery in the areas we'd be working with, or blood clotting disorders. This isn't an exhaustive list, if you have a medical condition and aren't sure, reach out before booking and we'll talk it through. I'd rather know upfront than have either of us walk into something that isn't a good fit.
Sessions are held in West Los Angeles. Exact address and arrival details are provided after booking.
No. NineMind Bodywork does not bill insurance. Sessions are paid out-of-pocket. Some HSA and FSA accounts cover bodywork, check with your plan provider. Receipts can be provided upon request.
Please give at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations may be charged 50% of the session fee. I understand that life happens, if something comes up, reach out as soon as you know and we'll work it out. Chronic last-minute cancellations make it difficult to serve other clients and may affect scheduling priority.
